“We not only set the goal, but also determined the way to get there,” explains Dr. Sara Könemann, Senior Manager at zeb. zeb defined strategic KPIs for sustainable business practices for a European banking association and also developed measures to present practical implementation steps to individual institutions. “One of our strengths lies in our ability to work for top management as well as all employees in their day-to-day business.”
zeb relied on its well-established strength in research to develop the key performance indicators: a Europe-wide comparison revealed more than 30 possible KPIs. A working group led by zeb gradually consolidated this number, first to twelve, then to three. “15 to 20 members represented every facet of the client – association, branch banks, asset management, building society savings. We had three very productive workshops,” states Dr. Sara Könemann.
Each of them resulted in a KPI for defining the goals in the areas of Environmental, Social and Governance. A second parallel project stream dealt with the question of how the individual institutions could achieve these new goals that were defined with an unprecedented clearness. “We put together a tool kit with 100 target pictures for the local banks,” says Dr. Sara Könemann. “Since then, every institution has been able to access specific measures for every aspect of day-to-day busines
