The irreversible trend of mobile Internet use and the “new normal” according to COVID-19 will change retail banking significantly. Mobile banking will become the main field of action. Every institution has the opportunity to secure long-term significance and economic success in retail banking.

Our analysis of the initial situation of German retail banking apps reveals that there is still a great need for action among banks. However, the extent to which new offerings are accepted also shows the high level of customers being interested in advanced offerings. In order to remain relevant for these customers, immediate action is required.
