COVID-19 profile

SARS-CoV-2 is an extremely aggressive virus. Without government countermeasures in place, growth in infection rates can become exponential. This has already become reality in most affected European countries. Several official sources offer regular updates on the spread of the virus worldwide, sharing figures by country and region.

Health authorities additionally provide important background information on the virus as well as guidelines on protection measures and other practical advice.

We have compiled the most important documents and links below.

Economic impact

In addition to the far-reaching health and social impacts, the economic consequences of the corona pandemic can also be severe. Even though the further course of the disease is still undetermined from today's perspective and the outcome is open, there are already numerous analyses and estimates of the consequences for the general economy as well as for companies and banks.

For further information and analyses regarding the economic consequences and implications of COVID-19 for European banks, please see our latest European Banking Study, our Corporate Banking Study, or for continually updated information on our zeb.FutureProof section and the BankingHub by zeb.

From mid-March to the beginning of June 2020, we used this page to keep you up to date on new and important studies and analyses of the coronavirus pandemic’s far-reaching economic impact. In the meantime, the publication frequency of new results has decreased significantly and the impact assessments are less divergent than at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. Therefore, this overview will remain as it is, but will not be extended to include new studies and analyses.
