Roundtable in Frankfurt with John Kornblum

Former U.S. ambassador John Kornblum: "Europe won’t get anywhere by using outdated formulas."

The former ambassador of the United States to Germany, John Kornblum, gave a speech at a zeb Financial Market Round Table meeting at the Industrie-Club Düsseldorf. Chairmen of boards of directors and representatives of financial institutions discussed the current transatlantic relations at this gathering. The focus of the lively discussions was on topics related to foreign and security policy as well as trade policy. The ambassador referred to the election of Donald Trump as U.S. President as a “sea change” and warned Europe that it would no longer get anywhere by using “outdated formulas”. He went on to say that European countries had to offer European solutions and pursue their own policy. At the same time, Mr. Kornblum rejected the view that transatlantic relations were in danger.
